Reggae and races makes for one happy day, and two big things off my checklist for my trip. I knew after my first few weeks here I wanted to go to the races. Not to bet, but to party in fancy duds. And lucky for me, I wound up at the premiere racing event for music and fashion (I assume for horses too but didn’t pay too much attention).
The bands were two New Zealand acts I had been introduced to previously and wanted to see- Lady6 and classic NZ reggae Rastas, katchafire. They played long sets in the pavilion, stopping every half hour or so for us to go catch a race. Perfection.
I can’t even describe all the outfits and hats. Best people watching ever.
I suppose I should have placed a bet or two because I was so lucky to be there. I won a contest just the day before for a Wellington Cup VIP package from the local FINEST newspaper IN THE WORLD, The Dominion Post.
